Frank Schmolke
Frank Schmolke has been a freelance illustrator and comic artist since 1999. He draws for print and online media, as a storyboard artist for the film industry and teaches illustration and comic storytelling. In 2013 Frank Schmolke's graphic novel debut "Trabanten" was published, Edition Moderne. In the comic narrative he mixes surreal and autobiographical elements of his growing up in Munich in the 1980s. With "Nachts im Paradies" Edition Moderne, his second long graphic novel was published in 2019 and was one of the most talked-about German-language comics of the year. In it, he tells of his experiences as a taxi driver in Munich's nightlife. In October 2020, he followed up with "Freaks", Edition Moderne, a dark version of the Netflix film of the same name. In 2021, he adapted "Der Augensammler" by bestselling author Sebastian Fitzek for Splitter Verlag, and this graphic novel was enormously well received by readers and critics alike. Frank Schmolke lives and works with his family near Munich. When he's not working, he likes to sit in his aquarium and look thoughtful.
