The exhibition "Kubuni. Comics from Africa" is a roadmap dedicated to the discovery of comics from sub-Saharan Africa in the past, present and future through three focal points.

On display are comics influenced by long-standing pictorial and narrative traditions, but also by more recent, often foreign cultures, which have been conceived and disseminated both in the Western world and on the African continent in album form, in newspapers or even as smartphone apps. Given that comics from the African continent are the product of a very different historical and cultural heritage respectively, is it even possible to speak of "the African comic"?

The touring exhibition is a bilingual adaptation of the exhibition at the Cité de la BD in Angoulême, curated by Joëlle Epée Mandengue (director of the Bilili Festival in Brazzaville) and Jean-Philippe Martin (Cité de la BD). The project was coordinated by the Office for Books and Publishing of the Institut français Deutschland; in Erlangen it is presented in cooperation with the deutsch-französisches Institut e. V. (dFi).
