Willkommen in Siegheilkirchen – Der Deix Film (DE/AT 2021)

Based on the characters of cartoonist Manfred Deix, who died in 2016 and worked on "Willkommen in Siegheilkirchen" before his death, the film shows the life of the boy everyone calls just Rotzbub in the arch-Catholic Austrian town of Siegheilkirchen. The son of good innkeepers grows up in the village in the 1960s and is confronted with the patriarchy, the church and prejudices that rule there. Rotzbub, on the other hand, just wants to draw and leave his previous life behind and gives expression to his displeasure in drawings.

The story is inspired by Deix's biography, his style as well as his view of the world. With biting humor and political explosiveness, the film tells of the courage to question narrow value systems and to live one's dreams.
