How is the animal-human relationship negotiated in illustration and comics, how does illustration influence animal existences and how is illustration influenced by non-human animals? The lecture presents fundamental positions of "Cultural Animal Studies" / Animal Theory and asks to what extent so-called Funny Animals renegotiate traditional hierarchies of humans and animals in times of climate crisis and mass extinction.
