Documentary, Director: Martina Fluck, 85 min, General Audiences

In their documentary, director Martina Fluck and cartoonist Tim Eckhorst explore the lives of the brothers Rudolph and Gus Dirks - pioneers of comic art. They emigrated from Holstein to the USA at the end of the 19th century and made a name for themselves as cartoonists in New York a few years later. They were in the right place at the right time, because comics were extremely popular in newspapers and were regarded as the first color image mass medium that also reached the poorer sections of the population and immigrants. The older brother Rudolph achieves his breakthrough with the anarchic cartoon "The Katzenjammer Kids", his brother Gus with the animal comic "Latest News from Bugville".

The screening will be followed by a talk with Tim Eckhorst.
