Illi Anna Heger is a comic artist and author with a focus on nonfictional graphic storytelling.  They are interested in history, structures of society, natural science, language change, identity and LGBTQ+ issues among other diverse topics. Their comics are research-based, often have biographical aspects and are available as a tandem of a visual and a text-only version (screen-readable comics) to make them more accessible.

Heger started publishing on their own website in 2010. Their mini-comics are also available in print in several book stores in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich. Since 2019, Heger has been freelancing with artistic, documentary, and theoretical projects for museums, exhibitions and institutions of education:
"Hostile", Drawing the Times-2022
"Lili Fürst – Child Emigration from Frankfurt am Main" Deutsche Nationalbibliothek-2021/2020
"Corner of Herero- and Waterbergstraße", Literaturportal Bayern-2020
"Queer Comic Conversations", Goethe Institut-2020

Furthermore, Illi Anna Heger is well-know for their development of gender-neutral pronouns (xier/xies). Their comic zine "Xier packt xiesen Koffer" from 2013 is a famous work on German neo-pronouns. These pronouns have a full declension and are used as an alternative to "sie" und "er" in books, movies and news paper articles, notably also in comics, manga and animated movies.

Heger (1978) was born in Berlin, studied in Berlin, Toronto and Munich, and lives in Munich since 2003.
