In 1941, the Jewish family of David Schaffer, who was ten years old at the time, was deported from Romania, which was allied with Nazi Germany, to Transnistria, where hundreds of thousands of Jews starved to death and perished in other ways. But the Schaffers survived this fate. In her contribution "Jenseits der Regeln" for the anthology "Aber ich lebe", Canadian illustrator Miriam Libicki has adapted David Schaffer's story as a comic.
